The Restaurant Week initiative, originated in New York, has since been rolled out to many other cities around the world and this week, for the first time, it is being implemented across the whole of Portugal!
The objective of Restaurant Week, in case you are unfamiliar with it, is to allow more people access to great restaurants by providing set menus at accessible prices. In the case of Portugal, three-course menus are priced at €20, with €1 from each sitting going to a charity. This initiative will be in effect until the 24th of March, so if you are planning to be in Portugal this week, make sure to take full advantage!
Participating cities include Beja, Braga, Bragança, Coimbra, Évora, Faro, Funchal, Lisboa (including Oeiras, Cascais and Sintra), Porto, Setúbal, Vila Real and Viseu, as well as some others. Check to see if there are any restaurants participating where you are! The restaurants are expected to get quite full, so booking ahead would probably be a good idea – you can do so on http://portugalrestaurantweek.besttables.com/#.
Once that’s done, all you need to do is show up for the gastronomical experience and… enjoy!
